Mt. Washington Valley’s photo contest themed “There’s No Place Like HOME” accepts DIGITAL photo entries each year up until October 1st. This annual photo contest has been steadily growing in its popularity since inception in 2008. Photographers living locally as well as visitors to both New Hampshire and Maine who enjoy sharing their photographic expressions are invited to take part of this annual contest. Thus far, there have been about 500 photo submissions representing over 75 photographers entered each year. It has become a wonderful opportunity for photo enthusiasts to share their best photos and to see and appreciate others as well.
MARK YOUR CALENDARS for October 1st. There are (3) three divisions of judging which will include CASH prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners in each of the 3 categories; Student, Amateur and Pro/Semi-Pro. Thanks to our many generous sponsors, there is still NO cost to contestants and one person can submit up to 10 photos, if they provide a CD or flashdrive with their high resolution photos. Emailed photos must also be high resolution, but contestants are limited to 5 submissions due to time constraints in the downloading process. (note: this is a new requirement effective 2011)
“Selecting the winners is always a very difficult decision with so many wonderful and creative photographic expressions of “There’s No Place Like HOME”. In an effort to encourage and show off more peoples talent for photography, contest judges also recognize up to 26 honorable mentions annually”, says contest host Bernadette Friberg of Badger Realty. “This way we have plenty of photos to choose from for fitting into our community service project “Calendars for Charity”. Each year, 6 contest winners as well as 6 of the honorable mentions will receive the added honor of having their selected photograph represented as one month in a special edition Charity calendar. “Calendars for Charities” is a community service project that has become the culmination of the MWV photo contest and is another great reason why some photographers have taken a strong interest in sharing their photos." says Bernie. Established in 2008 this MWV photo contest was in part created to help fundraise for selected local charities. A recognition ceremony held each Autumn is given for all of the Sponsors, Charities and Contestants, to announce the winners and unveil the new year’s “Calendars for Charity”.
